In the last years music from Madagascar found it’s recognition on the european stages. TAMAE (means „hope“ in the local language Antandroy) and they are the both female voices
Delake (Adelaide) Gellé y Vicky Gelle: They are presenting something very special - à capella concerts with songs from from their homeland Amboasary in the very South of Madagascar. With their magic and clear voices and in very sophisticated vocal arrangements they win the european audiences immediately and wherever they perform.
Malagasse music had been influenced by many different cultures - there are african, indian and european elements. In the songs of TAMAE you can discover strange and very familiar sounds. For the Antandroy in general, music and singing had always been part of their daily life. They do nearly everything while singing! They learnt mainly the traditional repertory and the different music styles from their parents and the griots in the region. Later, family clans where spret over and the members followed their own way - to meet again by chance in Europe to demonstrate the beauty and diversity of malagassy polyphonics.
In their concerts they use only a few instruments - both are very good percussionists - because the vocals are the focus of their work. Traditionally the songs are accompained by dances like Banaike, Mangononoke, Tsinjabe, Femininy presented in different choreographies.
With their outstanding voices and in extraordinary arrangements they are telling us stories about the daily life in Madagascar e.g. that many cows are a sign of richness, but to be rich might not mean happiness. They criticize the misery and the malreatment
